The First Lady of Sports
Carol Tshabalala has come a long way in her 16 years of broadcasting. In 2016, she joined the panel of UK soccer show, Football Today, focusing on the English Premier League. It's a first for any South African sports commentator and a big move for Tshabalala, who's come a long way since starting out in broadcasting. She's had to work harder and longer than any of her male counterparts to get the recognition she deserves, but she's now fully reaping the rewards of her efforts.
2000 – Tshabalala joined youth sports programme, Sports Buzz. She then added Soccer Special to her portfolio, setting a precedent for being the country's first official female broadcaster.
2009 – Now an established and respected commentator, Tshabalala hosted the final draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup next to David Beckham, Charlize Theron and Haile Gebrselassie.
2010 - In a historic event for South Africa, she was the MC for the FIFA World Cup preliminary and final draws.
2011 - With her global renown now set, Tshabalala was invited to host the FIFA Ballon D’Or ceremony with CNN anchor Pedro Pinto. She is the first woman to do so.
2016 – Alongside her work on South African and African shows, Tshabalala joins the Football Today programme as an anchor for the Premier League segment.
It's easy to get comfortable in your field, but that's not me. I've graduated from being a commentator to also producing and presenting.
